BODIES OF WORK
Released 02/03/2023
A series of photos I took on New Years Eve that I transformed into ominous black and white portraits, indicative of old film. I wanted to flex my chops with Photoshop retouching as well as express my love for colorless photos.

A series meant for my Contemporary Photo Genres class with the assignment revolving around gender. I took inspiration from Barbara Kruger's expressive and bold graphic design work to punch home the message of patriarchal messaging. I was also heavily influenced by the Swans album "Filth" which I directly referenced in the first photo. The words are also borrowed from the opening track "Stay Here" which complements these words with distorted, pummeling industrial rock.

A series meant for my Contemporary Photo Genres class with the assignment revolving around a modeled version of oneself. Mine centered not only around performed facial expressions but making heavy use of select exposure to create dramatic, surreal lighting. I also used various Photoshop tools to morph my face into strange versions of themselves.

A series meant for my Contemporary Photo Genres class with the assignment revolving around a message. In the city of Ithaca, a new apartment complex has been under construction for the past few months. Although I hope it can provide affordable and high quality housing for the people of Ithaca, but it has created a transition of what Ithaca is. The construction has made the town resemble more of the metropolis of Manhattan rather than the quaint town I knew when I first came there.

This series was made at the end of the Fall semester of my Sophomore year. It was made in response to a turbulent semester of pitfalls in my mental health and it was a cathartic expression of "seeing the light." I took inspiration from Renaissance style paintings where humans take on incredibly fluid and dynamic gestures. I also borrowed from the Bible story on St. Paul where a blinding light set him down a path of redemption after a lifetime of evil persecution. On a personal note, this was my most cathartic work and despite being almost two years old is still one of my favorite pieces.
